Description of event: Professor Paul Wells is Director of the Animation Academy, Loughborough University, and Chair of the Association of British Animation Collections. He has published widely in Animation Studies and Moving Image, and is an established writer and director for film, TV, radio and theatre. He recently curated ‘The Beautiful Frame: Animation & Sport’, an exhibition at the National Football Museum, Manchester, and has a new book, ‘Screenwriting for Animation’ published in 2019.
This masterclass offers an overview of the seven main errors and mistakes that constantly recur in the writing and devising of animated films. Animation tends to attract visualisers and world builders, rather than writers – but then writing for animation is a specialist skill needing particular knowledge.
