Gabriel Arnold

Cross Show Groom Lead - MPC Film

Gabriel has worked at MPC for 13 years with it being his first job after graduating from the BA Computer Animation and Visualisation course at Bournemouth University in 2006. After starting in the Matchmove department, he moved into the Character Finishing Department where he learned grooming and fur simulation on Narnia: Prince Caspian. After some years as a fur simulation lead on shows such as Robin Hood (2010) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, he moved into the FX department and worked on shows such as Life of Pi and Prometheus.

Over the past few years he has been back in the groom department concentrating on character grooming and was groom lead on The Jungle book and The Lion King among other films. He has now moved into a Cross Show Groom Lead role where he oversees workflows and technology for the department.

MPC Film has been one of the global leaders in VFX for over 25 years and counting, with industry-leading studios in London, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Bangalore and Montréal.

We’re the people behind the effects in countless blockbuster movies like The Lion King, Blade Runner 2049, Pirates of the Caribbean, Life Of Pi and Wonder Woman. We work on the tiny details and spectacular scenes that make movies truly mind-blowing. Animating everything from lifelike fur to dynamic crowd scenes to larger than life destruction sequences. We’re scene builders not just shot makers, with a direct line to the director’s creative vision.

The Lion King: MPC’s Character Development

Gabriel will discuss the process of bringing 86 species of animals to life for the Lion King and the technology implemented to achieve this.
