Chris Marsh – Lead Animator

Chris Marsh is a graduate in Digital Character Animation from Teeside University and a Lead Animator for Frontier specialising in bringing authentic creatures to life and setting technical priorities with Frontier’s world-leading code team.

Chris joined the videogames industry in 2009 and has spent his entire development career at Frontier. He has worked on Kinectimals, Zoo Tycoon (2013), Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution which was his first project as Animation Lead.

He is currently working on the upcoming PC-exclusive simulation game Planet Zoo.

Ollie Powell – Principal Animation Programmer

Ollie Powell is graduate in Game Programming from Teeside University and a Principal Programmer for Frontier specialising in animation principles and detail, helping to bring smooth, dynamic and reactive animations to Frontier’s games.

Working in the industry for six years, Ollie joined Frontier in 2014 and has worked on Elite Dangerous’ virtual reality experience and procedural animation systems for Jurassic World Evolution.

He is currently working on the upcoming PC-exclusive simulation game Planet Zoo.

Bringing Dinosaurs To Life: Animation Meets Code

Frontier’s Principal Animation Programmer, Ollie Powell, and Lead Animator Chris Marsh take a deep dive into the animation systems in 2018’s Jurassic World Evolution. Together, Ollie and Chris will discuss the technical and artistic challenges they encountered, and how Frontier’s Animation and Code teams worked together to create unique solutions that would bring Jurassic World’s iconic dinosaurs to life in an environment where players have total control.
