Dr Stuart Sumida’s eye opening presentation explores the intersection of science and art in animation and digital effects. A palaeontologist and anatomical consultant to major animation and digital effects studios, who has worked with Arc Productions, Disney Feature Animation, Double Negative, DreamWorks, ILM, MPC, PIXAR, and SONY ImageWorks, Dr. Sumida will describe the unexpected but exciting intersection of an anatomical scientist and the design and movement of animated characters, both animal and human. Sumida will describe the process of anatomical refinement of characters as diverse as Simba and Aslan, Tarzan and Mulan, Centaurs and Chimeras, dragons, and of course, floating zoos.
